Bali International Triathlon 2017
Posted by Bryan Cockrell onThis past weekend athletes of all ages, experience levels, and nationalities descended on to the island of the gods for the 2017 edition of the Bali International Triathlon.
The calm before the proverbial storm
The race venue was held at Mertasari Beach, Sanur, which afforded athletes and spectators convenient access to the area’s plentiful and vibrant hotels and restaurants.
The proverbial storm
Leading up to race day the weather was overcast and wet with a healthy thunderstorm hitting our favourite transition area just when most athletes were checking their steel/aluminum/carbon steeds in for the night (honestly, people, trash bags are for trash, not bicycles).
Stars for effort
Adding spice to an already exotic event, the recalcitrant weather would continue into race-day providing for a choppy and swell-ridden swim leg (raise your hand if you got lost after the 2nd buoy, excellent).
Heading out for the bike leg
But not all was bad as the cloud cover provided a welcome respite from the sun on the bike and run portions of the race. As noon approached the sun came out in full force to dry out a damp Sanur and remind us of just how hot things could have been on the course.
Cloud cover allowed athletes to push harder on the run
If you were competing in this year’s race we wish you congratulations on a job well-done. If you were a spectator or supporter in the crowd then we wish you’d get your sh!t together and sign up for next year’s race and support local events. The nice thing about racing in Bali is that regardless of how the race went, in the end you are in Bali. See you in 2018!
A job well done
